PAI GOW POKER STRATEGY
Now that you have read the pai gow poker rules on our website, you are ready to learn our strategy which will tell you what to do in various situations so that you gain advantage over your opponents during the game.
After your cards have been dealt, you need to take a look at them and quickly decide what to do and how to divide them into the right 5-card and 2-card hands so that you can have higher chances to win over the dealer.
If you do not have any pairs, straight or flush then you need to use the highest ranking card for the 5-card hand and use the second and third highest ranking cards for the 2-card hand.
If you’ve got three of a kind in your cards, go for three of a kind in the 5-card hand and the other high cards in the 2-card hand. However, there is one exception to this – if you’ve got three aces, then you’d better place a pair of aces in the 5-card hand and an ace in the 2-card hand.
The case that usually people are wondering what to do the most and therefore the case when they are making most mistakes is when there are two pairs dealt in your cards. The right way to play depends on the actual pairs and cards you have been dealt. In case you’ve got a high pair and a low one together with low cards then it is better to place the higher pair in the 5-card hand and the lower one in the 2-card hand. The other way to play with two pairs is when your pairs are out of weak cards and then it is better to play both pairs in the 5-card hand and the high cards in the 2-card hand.
If you have been dealt three pairs, you need to play the highest of the three pairs in the 2-card hand.
If you’ve been dealt a straight, keep the straight in the 5-card hand and the other cards in the 2-card hand.
If you’ve been dealt a full house, put the three of a kind in the 5-card hand and the pair in the 2-card hand.
